As for buying goat milk, if you can't find anywhere, but need some, a lot of large grocery chains carry it.Usually in qts. Might help you out temporarily.

You will have to separate them for several hours to get milk for your self. Most folks around here separate the doe from the kids overnight and milk for themselves in the morning.

I used to filter my milk because I milked several goats every day into a wide mouth bucket. I used a nylon coffee filter. Currently, I am milking 1 goat and am milking into a small mouth jar so very little crud falls into the milk. Anything that falls in lands on the foam and runs over the top.

I've bought 1 buck(Alpine) and 1 doe(La Mancha) and of course, any male kids they produce will become Whethers.

I remember someone telling me once about the same thing happening to them. They solved their problem by putting a 5 gallon bucket (with weight inside, and lid on) on the milk stand under the goat's belly. She couldn't sit down, and had to stand there and be milked. Let us know how it works for you.

Fresh from the goat we do not notice that our goat milk smells or any different from cows milk.
But fresh raw cow milk has a LOT more fat, yum, yum. :-)
If we let our raw goat milk sit in the fridge for a week, it starts to have a goat smell. Most of the time the milk is consumed in two to three days.

No bucks at the WannaBEEfarm. We go off site for aaa...service. I have heard that bucks can make the milk buckey,But have no experience with it. Our milk and goats do not stink, at least that is what some of the neighbors say. I would not dream of making suggestions on how to keep goats in FLA. It's a whole different environment then we have. We have Sannen milk goats which are from a colder regions. If I where FLA I would choose Nubians or spanish goats. Hope this helps.

On browsing. At the Wanna BEE Farm we let the goats browse as much as possible. We feel that it allows them the opportunity to use the intelligence that creator gave them to know how to take care of themselves. The milk will change taste depending on what they eat. However the goats health is more important to us then taste of the milk that they share with us. The healthier the goat is, the healthier we are.
This is my view anyhow.

Goat milk has smaller fat molecules but B6 and B12 are higher in cow milk.
The best milk for kids is moms milk.
But some moms are not thrilled to nurse after two years.
My belief is that any health animal clean raw milk is better for you then pasteurized any milk.

Thank you for commenting. For a couple of years we used a filter from Hoger goat supply that uses small filter papers. I found that that filtering was taking to long fo my liking and went to the coffee and tea filter method. Not much dirt or hair ends up in the milk or the filter.
We go to great measures to avoid contamination.

Hi to all you homesteaders, or back-to-the-landers out there. If you need a great book that is really helpful to all of us who can use some good info for farm living, get hold of a copy of a book titled: "Practical Homesteading" by John Vivian. I've had mine for about 30 years and still read through it often. You might find it on ebay. As for buying goat milk, if you can't find anywhere, but need some, a lot of large grocery chains carry it.Usually in qts. Might help you out temporarily.

thank you so much for this video. My hubby & i have been wanting goats for a very long time. once we get a nice place with some land we want a few goats. do you know anywhere in the Toledo and serounding areas were i can buy goats milk. i make soap & want to use it in all my soaps as well as want to give it to my girls. they also have a problem with cows milk & i have been told goats milk is as close to human milk as you can get. dont know for sure, but that is what i have heard. thanks.

Your's is the best by far on milking...very informative...I will be getting a few does in the near future...neather of my grandchildren digest cow's milk..they lack the protien, my grandson actually breaks out in rashes--from cow's milk BUT he can drink goats milk, and loves it. Goats milk is VERY expensive down here...5-8.00 a gallon...and we go thru it pretty fast in our house...Good video!!
